Inauguration Day

I remember feeling intense fear on this day 4 years ago. I feared for my future, and the future of my young daughter. As a young mom of my only child, a daughter, my heart sank. A misogynistic bully was just elected to the highest role of our land: the presidency. 


I never could’ve imagined the place our wonderful country would be in today: a country divided and broken. 


Plagued by a pandemic that has and continues to rip people’s lives apart both financially and physically. People believing a president of the UNITED STATES’ blatant LIES. 2 months of BS about baseless voter fraud allegations which ultimately directed his crazed cult members to storm the capitol of the UNITED STATES.These people called for Mike pence to be hung! 5 people died because of a president of the United State’s LIES. 


What is really scary is that his followers believed him. Members of congress got onboard with his lies because they needed his voters. Fox News just perpetuated the propaganda that trump was the winner. When FACTS proved otherwise.


But, I could never have imagined that today, for the first time in a long time, I feel a sense of hope and renewal for our wonderful country. Narcissism is being replaced by empathy. Pain is being replaced by hope. 


It’s going to take a long time, and we have a long road ahead of us to reunite our country. A dark chapter is ending, partially. It will take time to undo the damage that was done to our country the last 4 years. Trump gave permission for some of the ugliest and darkest ideas to be emboldened and to come forward with a platform. 


This isn’t about the left and the right. It’s not about socialist leftists and conservative right wingers. It’s not about the dems versus the republicans. It’s about right versus wrong. We have to come together to be able to see each other’s viewpoints, but never again can we embolden racists and neo-nazi’s to have a platform because the president of the United States gave them a platform. 


To be clear, I don’t think all trump supporters are racists neo-nazis. But a vote for trump was a vote for not caring about racism or neo-nazism.


But tomorrow is a new day. Biden will be president and the first person of color who is a WOMAN will be the Vice President of the United States. 


For the first time in a long time, I am hopeful for the future of our children. We can do this, America. Let’s get back to who we are: the UNITED states of America.
